Georgia Disability Benefits Guide

Everything you need to know about benefits, waivers, transitions, and planning for your child with a disability in Georgia.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Monthly cash benefit for children and adults with disabilities who have limited income.

Apply 3 months before your child turns 18 — do not wait until their birthday.

SSI provides monthly payments to individuals with disabilities and limited resources. For children under 18, parental income is "deemed" to the child.

At age 18, only the child's own income and resources count — this often means children who were previously denied can now qualify.

Apply 3 months before the child's 18th birthday. Contact your local Social Security office or call 1-800-772-1213.
